21 (a) Ans. Culture played an important role in creating the idea of the nation; art and poetry, stories and music. They all helped express and shape nationalist feelings.
Romantic artists and poets created a sense of shared collective heritage, a common cultural past, as the basis of a nation.
It was through folk songs, folk poetry, and folk dances that the true spirit of the nation was popularised.
Emphasis was given on the vernacular language and the collection of folklore to carry the modern nationalist message to large audiences.

In 1848, Frédéric Sorrieu, a French artist, prepared a series of four prints visualising his dream of a world made up of 'democratic and social Republics'.
The first print of the series, shows the peoples of Europe and America marching in a long train, and offering homage to the statue of Liberty as they pass by it.
Artists of the time of the French Revolution personified Liberty as a female figure- In the painting we can recognise the torch of Enlightenment she bears in one hand and the Charter of the Rights of Man in the other. On the earth in the foreground of the image lie the shattered remains of the symbols of absolutist institutions.

Plantation is a type of commercial farming.
In this type of farming, a single crop is grown on a large area.

Parties shape public opinion by raising and highlighting issues. Parties also raise issus of matter to the public in front of the government.

SECTION D30 Ans. The war created a new economic and political situation.
It led to a huge increase in defence expenditure which was financed by war loans and increasing taxes: customs duties were raised and income tax introduced.

(a) During the Swadeshi Movement in Bengal, a tricolour flag (red, green and yellow) was designed.
(b) It had eight lotuses, representing eight provinces of British India and a crescent moon, representing Hindus and Muslims.
(c) Painting of Bharat Mata is portrayed as an ascetic figure; she is calm, composed divine and spiritual.
(d) Devotion to this mother figure came to be seen as evidence of one's nationalism.

• Some of these are available in our immediate surroundings, while other requirements are met by bringing things from other places.
Goods and services do not move from supply locales to demand locales on their own.
The movement of these goods and services from their supply locations to demand locations necessitates the need for transport.
Roads are very significant in carrying goods from one place to another and serve for local. national and international trade.

Roads have an edge over railways in India:
(i) Construction cost of roadways is much lower than that of railways. Its maintenance is cheap and easy.
(1) Roads can traverse comparatively more dissecting and undulating plains.
(i) Roads can negotiate higher gradients of slopes and can traverse mountains like Himalayas.
(iv) Road transport is economical in transportation of few persons and small amount of goods over short distances.
(v) It also provides door to door services.
(vi) Cost of loading and unloading is much lower. Road transport is also used as a feeder to other modes of transport such as they provide link between railway station, airports and sea ports.
(vii). It is useful for transport of perishable commodities.

Democracy can address all social and political problems because:

33 Ans.Globalisation has brought greater competition among producers- both local and foreign producers have been of advantage to consumers particularly the well-off sections in the urban areas.
There is greater choice before consumers. They enjoy improved quality at lower prices. People today, enjoy much higher standards of living. Local companies supplying raw material have prospered.
The top Indian companies have been able to benefit from increased competition. Some Indian companies have gained from successful collaboration with foreign companies.
MNCs have increased their investments in India over the past 20 years, especially in cell phones, automobiles, electronics, soft drinks etc.
Many Indian companies have emerged as Multi Nationals themselves. Example- Tata Motors, Infosys, Ranbaxy, Asian Paints etc.
Globalisation has created opportunities for new jobs. Wide variety of good are now available to the consumers.

(1) Fair globalisation would create opportunities for all, and also ensure that the benefits of globalisation are shared better.
(ii) The government can play a major role in making this possible. It needs to frame policies for all.
(m) Government can ensure that labour laws are properly implemented and the workers get their rights. Benefits of globalisation are shared better.
(iv) It can support small producers to improve their performance till the time they become strong enough to compete.
